Health Desk: Consumption of alcohol is harmful to health. Elders who consume 14 drinks a week now need to be alert. According to a research conducted by Harvard University, consuming up to 14 drinks a week increases the risk of dementia in the elderly.
The research involved 3,021 people aged around 72 years. Initially, dementia was not seen in all of these people. All these people were researched for 6 years. After that, 512 people had dementia and 348 had Alzheimer’s disease.
During the research all the people were asked to inform them about their alcohol intake. The people involved in the research were categorized into various categories, not consuming alcohol, consuming 1 drink a week, consuming 1 to 7 drinks a week, consuming 7 to 14 drinks a week, and consuming more than 14 drinks a week.
The cognitive power of all the people involved in the research was observed. Research has shown that the risk of dementia is lower in people who do not consume alcohol than those who consume alcohol.
